I'm Jeremy and I'm fat, fifty and unfit - and I need your help. In the first week of April I will be cycling - slowly, sweatily and unsteadily - the length of the South Island to raise money to help people with cancer. I'm part of the Unicorn Foundation Team 5 which is fund raising to bring a centre of excellence to NZ to combat a type of cancer, called NETs, which killed Steve Jobs. One Kiwi a day is diagnosed with NETs (neuroendocrine tumours). We're supporting our friend Malcolm Legget and Unicorn NZ who are helping Kiwis who have to spend up to $50,000 of their own money to go to Melbourne for diagnosis. Unicorn NZ managed to buy a scanner for New Zealand in 2015 so patients didn't have to travel and Malcolm was nominated as a New Zealander of the Year for all his work for NETs. Now we are fund raising so more treatment can be done here, meaning patients can stay close to their families and loved ones.
That means on March 31, I will be putting on lycra and heading unsteadily out to cycle from south of Queensown to Picton in a week.
I think I can promise two things. One, I will be slowest; I'll also be last on the road, most unfit, largest and least stylish. Primarily slowest.
But secondly, I will cycle as far as I possibly can to help Malcolm, Unicorn and Kiwis with this type of cancer.
I would really appreciate if you could help us.
Thank you.
Jeremy
