In the first week of April my son Tom, and I are riding nearly 700km in the South Island to raise money for the Unicorn Foundation. This year’s Tour of New Zealand will have 55 riders riding to raise money for the many people suffering from neuroendocrine cancer ( NETs) in New Zealand. This ride is Unicorn's major fundraiser to generate funds to enable treatment for NET cancer sufferers to access treatment in N.Z. instead of travelling to Australia (at a cost of over $50,000). NET cancer can start anywhere, and at any age. One Kiwi is diagnosed every day, with 2000 currently living with a NET cancer in NZ. NET cancers are more common than brain, thyroid, cervical or ovarian cancers.
Two years ago Tom and I rode the length of the North Island to raise funds for Unicorn Foundation. The money we raised then along with other cyclists enabled testing (scans) for NET cancer to be undertaken in New Zealand, this was a massive step forward. The next step is to bring treatment to New Zealand.
As you know Tom and I enjoy cycling and are looking forward to the challenge of riding from Invercargill to Picton for the Unicorn Foundation. For us it is important to have a purpose for the ride and be able to raise money for such a worthy cause. We appreciate the donations that you make.
