Most people that know me know I love riding and dont need a reason to ride so I can not profess to be hard done by in getting the chance to ride across our beautiful country. However this time I will not just be lapping up the scenery and punishing my legs as best I can. I will also be "Riding for a Reason", a great cause in order to fundraise for the Unicorn Foundation NZ. It would be awesome to get your support for this with any contribution big or small being greatly appreciated. It will go along way to helping families all over New Zealand. Below is an overview of what the Unicorn Foundation NZ is about. Thanks heaps for taking the time to read this and your support.
Each year around 400 Kiwis are diagnosed with neuro- endocrine cancer ( NETs) but the public is largely unaware of this even though it is more common than cancer of the cervix, ovary and brain. A special type of radioisotope which targets the tumours directly is called PRRT and was pioneered in Melbourne. This costs about $50,000 for the first year. This treatment has been shown to prolong life and dramatically improve the qulaity of life of NET patients.
In 2015, Unicorn Foundation NZ raised over $400,000 in the Tour of New Zealand to establish a much needed PET scanner to more accurately diagnose NET tumours and give patients much more certainty about their options for treatment. Nearly 200 Kiwi's have now been through this scan which is a game changer for helping direct therapy.
Our goal now is to raise money and awareness to establish a centre of excellence for state-of-the art care of neuroendocrine cancer and to establish PRRT treatment in New Zealand. Available to all who need this life saving therapy along with expert clinical care. With your help and with the fantastic support of our community, friends and families we can make this happen. Please support me on this important and challenging ride, a real " Ride for a Reason" and join the Unicorn Foundation NZ in helping us to make this goal a reality.
Thankyou for your support, it will make a huge difference in the life of many good people and their families.
Cheers
Corey Bennett
