One New Zealander is diagnosed with neuro endocrine tumours (commonly known as NETs cancer) every day. NETs cancer is more common than cervical, ovarian or brain cancers and is the cancer which killed Apple’s Steve Jobs.
I am riding the length of the South Island in the Tour of New Zealand to raise money for the Unicorn Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping New Zealanders diagnosed with NETs cancer.
In 2015, the Unicorn Foundation raised enough money through the Tour of New Zealand to establish a new type of scanner for NETs cancer - the first such scanner in New Zealand. The next step is to raise money to help create a centre to provide the latest treatments. Currently NETs cancer treatment is neither funded nor available in New Zealand. Kiwis have to raise up to $50,000 each to receive their cancer treatment in Melbourne.
Like many New Zealanders I have lost close family and friends to cancer. Unicorn, named for the ancient symbol of hope, offers support and help to NETs cancer patients and their families. Our challenge is to complete the near 700km cycle from Invercargill to Wellington and to contribute to this very worthy cause with your help.
Every dollar will make a huge difference so please support us as we embark on this important and worthy challenge.
Thank you very much for your support.
