I like a challenge. Last July I completed a cycling challenge in Provence, France, cycling up Mont Ventoux 3 times in a single day. I managed to complete it and really enjoyed the challenge so when I heard about "Everesting" it piqued my interest. The Ventoux challenge comprised 4400 m of climbing. "Everesting" is double that at 8848m.
I have set the challenge of Everesting a climb near my home, Longs Hill Road, 137 times. It wont be easy, to say the least. I intend to start at about 3:00 am and hopefully finish at about 7:30 pm the following evening or 16 to 17 hours later.
I've had two close relatives who have had breast cancer and a cycling friend who has had prostate cancer. All with positive outcomes after treatment that have only been possible because of research
In doing this I hope to fundraise for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute. They are based in my home town of Ballarat and do great work. My son did some work experience with the team there several years ago. As Australia’s only regionally based cancer research center, Fiona Elsey are non-government funded, and rely on the generous support of the community to continue research into more effective ways to diagnose and treat cancer.
Please support me on my challenge by donating to the Institute and supporting cancer research.
Thank you
